What a lot of people don't realize is that doing this causes you, as a player, to discover fretboard maneuvers that you'd never discover through playing bluegrass. I have been playing banjo and performing professionally for about 30 years with different bands, and most of the time it has been non-bluegrass.įor many years I played with a 6-piece band that did huge venues, mostly black tie fundraisers, and like you, I had to find and create the banjo segments within non bluegrass formats.
